Bill Schneider: The Death of the Bush Doctrine

Bill Schneider’s commentary is very insightful. Part of the problem in my view is that the United States is lousy when it comes to developing a proactive & comprehensive foreign policy. Think about it. Our foreign policy revolves around partisanship and only has a shelf life of four years unless, there is a significant event that alters it. In this age, the United States must begin developing strategy based on a 10, 20, 50 year cycle. I would suggest a bi-partisan commission of politicians, academics, and foreign policy experts to view the world in regions (Europe, Asia, South America, et al.) and develop an if/then type of strategy. We must be consistent globally, we must continue to protect our best interests, above all we must regain a sensible, rational, decisive image to our allies and to a much greater extent our enemies.
